Shemagh

I had totally forgotten putting in an order for this and was happy to see it get made although I had no idea how big it was going to be!

Received it about a month ago and has seen nearly daily use and I was not expecting that as while I have the regular cotton shemaghs, I don't use them daily.

We get cold nights here at our elevation (10 degrees celcius) and it's been a great thing to keep the chill off and I just use it folded corner to corner and draped.

It's been a sit pad on hard bleachers at a recent powwow in Kamloops, Canada.

I use it as a blanket on top of my sleeping pad rather than sleep directly on the pad.

It's been used as a makeshift butt pack.

Used as a spark shield near the campfire.

My first piece of WW gear and definitely not my last.

Being familiar with the weight and thickness of WW, I wasn’t expecting to use this piece of kit as a traditional Shemagh.

However, the concept of the shemagh being a multi-application cloth, I felt this could be a very useful size of WW material. And, it is!

I expect it to be a useful shawl or hood to use additionally in winter when needing to be stationary. (I like the idea stated in another review on how to use it across the shoulders under my WW Anorak.)

Already using it as lap throw, pillow, bolster for supporting my arm during a severe RA flare-up (WW is much more soothing when Gout like pain leaves you not wanting anything touching you. FYI), and seat cushion.

I love the square dimensions of this piece. Makes an exact triangle when folded. Has been quite useful when a standard blanket would be just too much or not the right dimensions. I’m glad it is no smaller than it is.

So, if you are familiar with the traditional keffiyeh and are looking for that, this may not be your solution. A traditional keffiyeh is thin and easily used for a head wrap, neck wrap etc.

This piece has larger dimensions and is more substantial than a traditional keffiyeh. For the environments that WW designs their pieces to thrive, a traditional keffiyeh would have little to no value. This piece could easily be part of a backwoods kit that could be used for shelter, shock blanket, an additional layer as described by Mark T in his review and so on.

Literally, it is an infinitely durable item that is soft as cashmere and has uses that are limited largely to your imagination. Super happy that I pulled the trigger on this one.

I'd had these on pre-order for quite some time, and when the notification arrived, I quite uncharacteristically impulse-bought two, one Drab and one Lynx, both Midweight.

No regrets. This has been the coldest winter in several years, and I've been very glad of them; fold one diagonally and drape it across my shoulders, don my Anorak, and arrange the ends inside the sleeves, while still having a spare.

Unsurprisingly, two layers of Midweight is warmer than one of Fullweight and fully windproof, whilst seeming to be no heavier. This matters, since this could be used as a hood in the absence of anything else, while still keeping out some pretty fierce weather.

Works well in blocking the chill of overly-airconditioned buildings (which seems to be all of them these days)

WW makes one of the four wools that my skin will stand, and is of heirloom quality. Does need a scarf ring or blanket pin to fasten, but you don't want to lose an item like this.
